Something crazy got in to me and I decided to run a 2nd half-marathon this summer. I guess I figured I'd already be in shape and it would force me into running serious longer into the summer. So when I saw that American Fork Canyon was going to have a 1/2 for the first time I thought that would be perfect since it is so close.
So, I got up at 4:00 am and headed off to AF High School to catch the bus. The race started at Tibble Fork Reservoir and ended back at the high school.
It was a BEAUTIFUL race! After the canyon scenery, we ran the golf course trail that follows the creek out of the canyon through Cedar Hills and into Pleasant Grove. Then the course takes you right by the Timp Temple and down to the high school.
I was able to beat my Provo Canyon half (my time was 2:01) by more than 6 minutes. I got in at about 1:55. That is REALLY fast for me. About a 8:40 average mile pace.
What I didn't realize was how STEEP the race would be. Boy am I suffering NOW. WOW - every part of my legs hurt! I am not used to running such steep declines!
It was worth it, though! Next summer I will have to prepare better.
I forced my kids and husband to come and cheer me on! They were so glad to get up early on Saturday. David rewarded them with donuts and chocolate milk while they waited.
Way To Go Jo.... I am really proud of you. Mom
